RIBA Awards 2011 - Award for The Pasmore Apollo Pavilion

8th July 2011

David Beaumont, on behalf of Tony Burns of Burns Architects, received a RIBA Award for the restoration and conservation of the Pasmore Apollo Pavilion from Ruth Reed, President of the RIBA, at a gala evening at Manchester Town Hall. The judges considered that: "The extensive academic and methodical restoration has been undertaken with a great deal of precision and care".

The award not only recognises local community involvement but Tony Burns' dedication in promoting its restoration whilst others called for its demolition. Its restoration highlights Peterlee's significance as one of the pioneering post-war New Towns.

Since the restoration works, the project has been further recognised by being awarded grade II* listed status.
