Award News Summer 2010

Victor Pasmore's Apollo Pavilion in Peterlee, has been recognised in a series of civic improvement, construction and environmental awards. The restoration of the pavilion, by Burns Architects and rated by The Observer newspaper's architectural correspondent as one of the ten best public works of art in the UK, has received five awards. From well over 500 entries for the national Civic Trust Awards, the Apollo Pavilion was the only project in the North East region to be recognised. The pavilion also received a commendation in the awards sponsored by English Heritage in the Constructing Excellence North East Awards and was recognised by Durham County in two Environmental Awards 2010. It later went on to win an award from the RIBA.
