Extra Care Living, North York Moors

This scheme provides 12 'extra care' self-contained apartments and overlooks the River Esk within the North York Moors National park. The building maximises the south facing aspect, with all living rooms having views over the valley.

The design aims to minimise impact by varying the ridge height and providing a variation in plan to provide interest in both height and scale.

The building is constructed with natural stone externally and a mixture of natural pantile and reclaimed natural slate roofs; windows are in colour coated aluminium.

The building is fully compliant with disabled standards and there is wheelchair access throughout.

The project has been designed to be low cost and energy efficient and has a BREEAM 'very good' rating. It utilises many modern energy saving techniques such as a ground source heat pump, grey water recycling and rainwater harvesting.
